She was born in Wytheville, Va., Feb. 25, 1935 to the late Robert L. and Frances Elizabeth Walters, Wytheville, Va. She is preceded in death by her brother, Cecil Walters; and her daughter, Sherry S. Clark.
She is survived by her dedicated husband of 69 years, Richard D. Shupe; three daughters, Pamela S. Mathena and son-in-law, Jerry Mathena of Fredricksburg, Va., Donna S. Jaccard and son-in-law Jeff Jaccard of Knoxville, Tenn., and Teresa S. Hash and son-in-law Bobby Hash of Dublin, Va.; 12 treasured grandchildren who will miss their sweet Memaw, Brad Clark, Chad (Stacey) Clark, Brett (Jessica) Clark, Brian (Melody) Harvey, George M. “Trey” Harvey III, Lance (Kayla) Harvey, Amanda J. (Lance) Marshall, Chelsea (Richard) Kaufman, Joseph (Ashley) Jaccard, Audrey (D.J) Riddle, Lora E. (Benjamin) Davidson and Thomas K. Hash, and great-grandchildren, Payson and Siera Clark, Lexie, Logan, Seth and Gavin Clark, Joslynn, Nolan and Annalise Harvey, Emma Grace Harvey, Harmony and Wyatt Jaccard, Pierce and Elise Kaufman, Dylan Riddle, Claire, Ruth, Hazel Grace and Luke Davidson.
The family would like to thank the wonderful employees of Carilion Clinic Hospice, Dr. Benjamin Davidson and Linda McDaniel, who made it possible for us to keep her at home with their little dog, Poppy, by her side.
Her whole life was dedicated to her family and her church. As one of her grandsons wrote “Memaw will always be loved, and live in our family’s hearts forever.” She truly enjoyed time with family and friends and was always very generous and kind to all.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral Services are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Stevens Funeral Home. Interment follows at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
