Memorial services for Hugh Neeld, age 86 of Jacksonville are scheduled for 1:00 Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with Barbara Hugghins officiating. Boren-Conner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Neeld was born February 17, 1929, in Fort Worth and had lived in East Texas for almost fifty years prior to his death on Jan. 19, 2016. He served in the Navy in WWII and was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa. He received his education in Ft. Worth schools and graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in broadcast journalism. After his retirement from KLTV-TV in 1994 he began writing for newspapers and magazines having received many competitive awards. He also wrote humor columns for the Jacksonville Progress, the Tyler Paper On-line edition and was a contributor for In Magazine. A collection of his humorous columns “The Curmudgeon Report” was published in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fenner and Birdie Newsome Neeld and a daughter, Susan Fowler.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-four years, Cris, his daughter, Carla Szafran and her husband Paul, a son, Will Fowler, and a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Jean Neeld of Portland, OR.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 on Friday prior to the service at the First United Methodist Church.
