Mary Warren, age 100 of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Season’s Hospice.
Mary was the wife of the late Paul R. Warren, Sr., with whom she shared 29 years of marriage before his passing in 1979.
Mary was born 1920 in Cedar Rapids, IA to the late Joseph Curio and the late Helen Graf Curio. Though born in Cedar Rapids, Mary was raised in Kenosha, WI.
In her early twenties, Mary and her sister Josephine “Jo”, spent their time traveling the United States. The two would work as waitresses and spend their earnings traveling to new places to experience different parts of the country. Mary’s travels led to some of her greatest adventures like meeting her would-be husband, Paul Sr. in St. Petersburg, FL and later the birth of her son, Paul Jr. in Chicago, IL. Once finally settling back home in Kenosha, Mary’s extensive experience in the food service industry also steered her to own her own restaurant.
Mary was an avid bowler and threw strikes for as long as her body would allow her. She also enjoyed baking cookies and reading. While Mary had many interests, she was most passionate about volunteering. She was a lifelong volunteer and even won a “Volunteer of the Year” Award while residing in Austin, TX. Whether it was volunteering at the senior center, her church, the hospital or simply helping a friend, Mary was the embodiment of what it means to work hard and help others.
Mary is survived by her son, Paul Warren, Jr. and his wife, Jean; two grandchildren, Jacob Warren and his wife, Karen, and Conrad Warren; as well as two great grandchildren, Calandra and Korbin. In addition to her husband, Paul Warren, Sr., Mary was predeceased by brothers, Carl Curio and Roy Curio; and sisters, Josephine Sawtell and Frances Sanders.
Due to pandemic concerns and for the health and safety of others, services for Mary will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in Mary’s honor may be made to Lutheran Community Services, 2809 Baynard Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19802 or at www.lcsde.org.
