Joseph E. McLaughlin

Joseph E. McLaughlin, “Joe”, age 90, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 at Pocopson Home with his family by his side. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Eleanor M. Condy McLaughlin in 2016.

Born 1929 in Sharon Hill, PA, Joe was the son of the late Robert McLaughlin and the late Gertrude Higgins McLaughlin.

Joe served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and served during the Korean War. He later went on to work as a Printer in Advertising.

Joe was a member of St. Patrick Parish and was a devout Catholic.

Joe was a gifted multi-sport athlete and an excellent dancer. He was a sports fanatic and loved the Phillies and the Eagles. Joe was an avid golfer and following his retirement, spent 20 years in Florida working part time at a golf course where he was able to play as much golf as his heart desired. He also enjoyed visiting the race track and trying his luck with scratch off lottery tickets.

Joe was a kind and gentle man who never failed to greet you with a “Hey Baby” and a smile that was truly contagious. For two years, Joe lived at the Friends Home in Kennett Square where he made many friends with both the staff and the residents. Although his outgoing and caring nature will be missed by all that knew him, Joe’s family knows he is happy to be reunited with his one and only, Eleanor.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Agnes O’Toole; his son, Joseph McLaughlin, Jr. and his wife, Linda; his sister, Margaret Welke; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who always treasured the time they spent with their Uncle Joe.

In addition to being predeceased by his wife, Eleanor; he is predeceased by his son, Kenneth McLaughlin; 3 brothers, Charles J. McLaughlin, Robert McLaughlin, and John McLaughlin; as well as 3 sisters, Elizabeth Salerno, Catherine Boyle and Gertrude Crawford.

You are invited to visit with Joe’s family and friends on Friday, November 22, 2019 from 10:00AM to 10:45AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 212 Meredith Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. His Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00AM. Interment will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations in Joe’s memory be made to Willow Tree Hospice, 616 East Cypress Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348 or to Friends Home in Kennett, 147 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
