MANSFIELD: Victoria Lynne Picking passed away Friday April 2, 2021 in OhioHealth Mansfield after a brief battle with cancer. She was 69.
She was born July 25, 1951 to parents Cecil & Thelma (Shoup) Bazley in Mansfield. After Vickie graduated from Mansfield Senior High, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Ashland College where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority, and went on to achieve her master’s degree in education.
On December 17, 1982, she married Paul Picking and they had 38 years together.
Vickie worked for Mansfield City Schools earning her tenure and teaching home economics as well as teaching in the elementary for over 30 years until retiring in 2008.
Vickie enjoyed many things, from gardening to sewing, needlepoint, cooking, baking (some family favorites being her blueberry delight and strawberry pie) and of course cake decorating, Vickie enjoyed life. She enjoyed reading, especially James Patterson novels, and had a sense of humor that was off the charts. Most of all she just enjoyed being with those she loved.
She is survived by husband Paul Picking; children Richard Adam Picking, Heather K. Picking and Robert A. (Sheila) Picking; grandchildren Alyssa, Anderson, Jennifer and Timothy; brothers Cecil Trent (Margo) Bazley, Bryan (Laurie) Bazley and Richard Terry (Kathy) Bazley; close friend Sue Yarger, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and a beloved K-9 Jasmine.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Vickie’s family will receive friends Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 11 am – 12 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring her life will begin immediately at 12 p.m. Pastor Larry Davis will speak.
Contributions in her memory to the Richland County Humane Society may be made at the funeral.
