Raymond H. “Ray” Huber

BUCYRUS: Raymond H. “Ray” Huber passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 and was blessed to be in his home. He was 78.

He was born May 26, 1943 in Crestline to parents Harold & Beatrice (Rainey) Huber. He graduated from Crestline High school. He was a talented musician, a member of the OSU marching band and the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. He graduated from Ashland College and went on to teach science at Lexington Junior High School. He also worked as an Allstate Insurance agent for 20 years in Lexington.

From an early age Ray had a love for flying and rode his bike from Crestline to Galion airport where he washed airplanes and mowed grass around the airport in exchange for flying lessons. He soloed at age 16. Later in life, he enjoyed being a part of the group at Bucyrus Airport and enjoyed spending time there as a flight instructor and flying his Piper Tri-Pacer, Cessna-150 or Aeronca Champ.

Ray served his country in the US Air Force, providing technical training for aircraft ground crews. He was one of the youngest NCOs in the Air Force at the time.

Ray was an avid hunter. He enjoyed taking hunting trips to southern Ohio where he joined his “Hunting Brothers” in friendship and comradery.

Ray and his wife raised and showed American Quarter horses at state, regional and national venues. The horses earned many awards including top ten honors at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. He enjoyed working on the farm and loved the land.

Ray will be remembered for his strength and determination. From fighting cancer to being strong for those around him that needed him to be, Ray will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife whom he married September 14, 1979, Donna (Milleman) Huber; daughters Michelle Motherway and Kristen McCord; 4 grandchildren; brother Herb Huber as well as other extended family members

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by brother Ken Huber.

Although no public service will be held in Ray’s memory, the family hopes you remember him in your own special way as his family will celebrate his life with a private service at a later date.
