Nancy Guard

WILLIS, TX – Nancy Guard, of Willis, Texas, went to be with her “Dear Lord” Jesus on Dec. 22, 2021, after a long battle with chronic health issues. She passed away peacefully in hospice care surrounded by many loving family members.

Nancy Lea Guard was born to the late Frank and Gloria Shorf on April 7, 1956, in Cleveland. She grew up in Chardon, alongside her sisters whom she remained lifelong friends. Her family was always important to Nancy and this was reflected in the way she lived her life and the sacrifices she made.

She later moved to Texas, where she raised a family, participated in her church and worked in many important administrative roles for businesses, the longest being for the Texas Department of Corrections, where she was well regarded and had many friends.

Nancy was known for having a loving heart and an ability to meaningfully connect with each person she encountered. Her passing is a great loss for those fortunate enough to have been touched by her presence.

Nancy is survived by her children Christine (Larry) Kirsten, John (Donna) DeMarco, Lea (Mike) Rowe, Rick (Sarah) Guard; sisters Debbie (Steve) Kramer, Dee (Bob) Shieff; companion, Gary Claxton; numerous grandchildren; and a large extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Francine Rendon and Royetta Pitt; daughter Angela DeMarco; and husband, Robert Guard.

A memorial service will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, in Huntsville, Texas, on Jan. 8, 2022, at 2 p.m.
