Jeanette Margaret Burnett

BURTON TWP. – Jeanette Margaret Burnett, age 95, of Burton Township, died Nov. 5, 2021, at her home.

She was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Newbury Township, to Sidney and Margaret (nee Tuttle) Matthews.

Jeanette graduated from Burton High School and Kent State University. She retired from the Kenston Schools, where she taught for 20 years.

Jeanette is survived by her children, Donna Burnett, of Hamilton, Ohio, Kenneth (Ruth) Burnett, of Burton Township, Peggy (Tony) Rhodes, of Newton, N.C., John (Michele) Burnett, of Burton Township; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Richard F. Burnett; brother, Walter Matthews; and sisters, Betty Morrell and Nancy Scott.

In her retirement she enjoyed travelling with their camper, going on cruises and visiting relatives.

When she was home, she worked many hours on her favorite pastime of quilting, which resulted in donations to organizations and family members.

Jeanette was a member of Burton Congregational Church for more than 80 years, including many years as a member of the choir and organist.

Throughout her life, she was also involved in The Great Geauga Fair Band, Burton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and Geauga County Retired Teachers Associations. In the last several years, she worked to support the new Berkshire All Grade School that she was privileged to tour in her final days.

Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, from 7-9 p.m., at Burton Congregational Church, 14558 West Park St., Burton. Calling hours also will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, with funeral services immediately following at 12 noon.

Burial will be at Welton Cemetery.

Donations are suggested in her memory to Berkshire Schools or Burton Congregational Church.
