Gary Lee Kaple, 81 of Bucyrus passed away on Sunday January 9, 2022 at Altercare of Bucyrus. Gary was born June 20, 1940 in Shelby to the late Fred and Rena (Milliron) Kaple. He was married October 19, 2002 to Cheryl “Drake” Kaple who survives. Gary is also survived by children Terri (Chad) Godby of Iowa, Randy (Kitty) Kaple of Marblehead, OH, Mark (Lisa) Kaple of Marysville, OH, Paul (Angie) Kaple of Columbus, and Greg (Melissa) Kaple of Galion; step children April (John) Powell of Bucyrus and Scott (Angel) Perdue of Marion; his children’s mother Ruth Kaple Cameron of Galion; grandchildren Jacob, Garett, Meghan, Allison, Andrew, Gabrielle, Hayden, Alec, Galen, Madison, Lyndsey, Ashly, Makayla, Andrew, Stevie, Stephen, Ryan, Symphony, Amber, and Brandon; 13 great grandchildren; brother John Kaple of Mansfield and brother Jan Kaple (Barb) of Shelby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to Gary’s parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Marilyn Isenhower, Donna Fortney, Wanda “Jane” Henry, and Joanne Kaple, as well as brothers Dean and Rodney Kaple.
Gary was a graduate of Shelby High School in 1958. After high school Gary attended the Toledo Meat Cutting School and returned to Shelby to work as a meat cutter at Deans Mini Mart, Cornell’s IGA and then various Geyer stores. He owned Kaple’s Customs Meats and was part owner of Southland Drive-Thru in Bucyrus, where he sold meats to local businesses. He prided himself in his unique recipe for his bratwurst, which he sold at the annual Bratwurst Festival.
Gary was a life-long Moose member. He also was a huge fan of the Indians, Cleveland Browns and the OSU Buckeyes. He loved to bowl and scored a perfect 300 earning him a 300 ring.
Gary also enjoyed being at Lake Erie and staying at his camper, which he owned for more than three decades. While at the lake he loved to fish for wally, perch and catfish. He was known at the campground as the Sheriff/Mayor for watching over the campgrounds.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends in Bucyrus at a later date (TBA). Memorials can be made to the Mooseheart through the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home.
