Gary A. Snyder, age 73, of Marion, died peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at the Woodside Village in Mount Gilead following an extended illness.
On May 30, 1947, Gary was born in Marion, Ohio, one of five children of the late Edward F. and Mary Louise (Truitt) Snyder. He graduated from Ridgedale High School.
Shortly following high school, he enlisted to serve his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He served as a quartermaster and was active for nearly four years.
Upon his honorable discharge, Gary returned home to Marion, where he worked for most of his career in the automotive industry. Most recently he worked as a molding operator for Black Hawk Automotive. He also was a member of the VFW Post 3313 and the Eagles Lodge in Marion.
With a love for gambling, Gary frequented the Hollywood casino in Columbus, and he even lived for two and a half years in Las Vegas at one point in his life. He also loved watching old movies and listening to Elvis.
Gary will be remembered as a fun, loveable guy, who would help anyone he could.
He will be missed by his son, Chad (Starlight) Snyder Sr.; two grandchildren: Chad Snyder Jr., and Summer Snyder.
Including his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two brothers: Edward “Tony” Snyder and Gerald Snyder; and two sisters: Betty Pierce and Carol Ratliff.
His family will greet friends from 1 – 2 pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, DENZER Chapel, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring his life will follow there at 2 pm, where military honors will be provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Masks are required inside of the facility.
