Daniel F. Ross, 69, died Tuesday morning, January 11, 2022 at Bucyrus Community Hospital after suffering recent health complications.
He was born in Bucyrus on June 27, 1952 to the late Floyd F. and Mary Alice (Wilson) Ross. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1970 and went on to lead a life of service. He served in the Ohio National Guard from 1971-1976. After spending time at the local Sohio Station and Timken Plant, Dan found his passion when he joined the Bucyrus Fire Department in 1976. Dan rose through the ranks and retired as Fire Chief in 2002. He went on to serve on the Bucyrus City School Board and he continued his life of service as Mayor of Bucyrus from 2004 until 2010.
A stranger to no one, Dan loved talking to people and stayed busy attending area events. He never missed his sons’ sporting events and activities. He also loved old cars and was especially proud of the 1970 Mach 1 Mustang he had owned since it was nearly new. Over the years, Dan was a member of the American Legion, AmVets, VFW, Moose Lodge, and Elks Lodge where he enjoyed many meals and conversations. He will be remembered as a public servant, leader, person of duty, and, of course, ‘Dad.’
Dan is survived by sons, Josh (Bethany) Ross, Jason (Erin) Ross, Andrew (Andrea) Ross, and Quin Ross; grandchildren, Peyton, Blake, Emmalyn, Norah, Charlotte, Emilia, and Lyla; sisters, Marjorie (Ron) Wagenblast and Nancy (Mike) Kalb; along with friends and extended family.
Dan’s family will receive friends on Sunday, January 16 from 3-6 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where his funeral will be held Monday at 10:30 am with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. He will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to the American Legion Post 181 Building Renovation Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Dan’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
