Ted S. Southern

Ted S. Southern, 72, passed away on Monday morning, January 18, 2021, at his home in Stokesdale surrounded by his family. A native of Stokes County, Ted was born to the late Russell and Helon Southern. He was a graduate of Northwest Guilford High School and then attended Wingate and Elon Colleges.
Ted joined his father in business at Stokesdale Milling Company after college, where many lifelong personal and business relationships began. He later transitioned into business at what became Southern Hardware on Main Street in Stokesdale. He owned and operated Southern Hardware for almost 40 years, until he retired and sold the building.
Ted loved warm weather, playing golf, playing cards, helping others, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Stokesdale Masonic Lodge 428. He will be remembered in our hearts as a gentle, kind, caring and loving husband, brother, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents, brother Wes Southern, sister-in-law Carolyn Southern, and brother Joe Southern. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of 50 years, daughter, Beth (Tony) Wilcox, daughter, Kristi (Brad) Southern, granddaughter, Caroline Wilcox, his sister, Betty Fleming, many other extended family members, including nieces and nephews, and close friends.
The family will be holding a private graveside service at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to Stokesdale United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, Good Samaritan Ministries of Stokesdale, or a special charity of your choice.
