Robert Clayton Craven, II (Bobby), 70, of Oak Ridge, NC, passed away on January 11, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Craven will lie in repose at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel in Greensboro, NC for viewing, Friday January 15, 2021 from noon-5pm.
Bobby was born in Greensboro, NC to Thad McNeal Craven and Peggy Kirkman Craven on September 22, 1950. Bobby graduated from Grimsley High School, Lees McRae and Appalachian State University. He started his career in the family business of Craven Steel, but worked in sales to the surveying industry for over 40 years.
During school, Bobby excelled in swimming, baseball and golf. His love for golf allowed him to compete throughout the Carolinas. He won several club championships and the Greensboro City Amateur, an emotional win after getting so close for 25 years. Bobby was also active at the Spears YMCA. Bobby and Laura had a passion for travel which included many Caribbean islands and most recently the National Parks.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Laura of 30 years, his sons, Clay and Chris (Maggie), a brother, Neal Craven (Deborah) and two grandchildren, Jack and Anna Craven.
A memorial service is planned for April 16th at the Cardinal Golf Course from 2 -5 pm.
