Laurie Speer Powers

GREENSBORO – Late in the evening of Saturday, June 29, 2019, Laurie Speer Powers peacefully departed this world and was embraced by her Savior Jesus.
She was a loving and well-loved daughter, wife, mother, daughter-in-law, aunt, Lolo (grandmother) and friend.
Laurie is preceded in death by her father, Jim and brother, Stewart and is survived by her mother, Norma, her husband, Jim, her daughter Kelly and her husband Jamie, grandchildren Micah, Zoe and Triniti, brother Michael and his wife, Becky, sister Jaymie and her husband Bob, brother-in-law David and his wife Vicky, brother-in-law George and his wife Janet, sister-in-law Deborah and her husband Rich, sister-in-law Mary and her husband Kevin, four nieces and eight nephews.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, she lived the last half of her life in Florida, Georgia, Indiana and North Carolina. Laurie married Jim in 1993 at Idlewild Baptist Church in Tampa where they first met. Laurie LOVED her 3 grandchildren. Laurie was a substitute teacher for 25 years serving schools like Land O’ Lakes High, Wesley Chapel High and Northwest Guilford High among others. She always had a special way of connecting with her high school students. Laurie was a long-time member of Idlewild Baptist Church in Tampa, FL and, most recently, a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church and the 3Cs Sunday school class. The ultimate delights of her life were her husband, her daughter and son-in-law and her three wonderful grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to gather at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church for a time of meeting with family followed at by a celebration of her life officiated by the Reverend George Powers at 11:00 a.m.
