Jean Powell Wade

Jean Powell Wade, 91, died July 26, 2021 at her home of congestive heart failure.
Mrs. Wade was born on January 9, 1930 in Greensboro, the daughter of the late Ervin L. and Elppa Michael Powell. After graduating from Rankin High School in 1947, she took a secretarial course and worked at Sears Roebuck Mail Order. She married Douglas V. Wade in 1950. They lived in Atlanta for twenty years, where she worked part-time at the Gallery of Fabrics and sewed clothes for the customers. She returned to Greensboro in 1996. Jean was renowned for her talents as a seamstress and designer. She made everything from dresses to drapes, including several wedding gowns. She was an avid gardener and a great cook. She loved to travel, and, for many years, she had a half-packed suitcase under the bed ready to go.
Survivors include her two children, Doug Wade, Jr. of Greensboro and Stephanie Wade of Maryland, two grandchildren, Lauren Ward (Rob) of Rhode Island and Nick Wade of Greensboro, two great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Alice Ward.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wade was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol, and two brothers, Thomas R. and Larry M. Powell.
A private ceremony will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park.
