Florence Ellen Owens Alley


Florence Ellen Owens Alley, 96, of Danbury, NC peacefully passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Alley and great granddaughter, Alli Lane Turner.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Walter) Hole of Danbury, NC; her son, Mike Alley of Walnut Cove, NC; three granddaughters, Anessa (Zane) McKinney, Leann (Michael) White, and Lesli Turner (Bryan Nowlin); and six great grandchildren, Madelyn and Lucas McKinney, Garrett and Carson White, and Jayse and Sydni Turner. She is also survived by her three sisters-in-law, Betty Owens, Roxie Owens, and Mary Sue Alley.
She was a member of Westfield Baptist Church.
In addition to her children Florence was lovingly cared for over the past five years by Judy Martin, Jeanette Gordon, Debbie Bell and Cathy Brown. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to these caregivers and the neighbors of the community for the love shown to Florence.
Florence graduated from Westfield High School and earned her business degree from Roanoke Business College. She was a star basketball player throughout her high school and college career. She was the business office manager of Stokes Reynolds Memorial Hospital from 1953 – 1986 and continued to work part time there until the age of 80. In her retirement, she also worked part time at Priddy’s General Store.
Florence was very active in her community and was the treasurer for the Northview Homemakers Extension Club for many years. She loved her neighbors and was proud of the community in which she lived.
There will be no formal visitation.
There will be a 3:00 pm graveside service held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Northview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Tracy Collins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northview Community Center, C/O of Robert Leake 2601 Sheppard Mill Rd. Sandy Ridge, NC 27046.
