Bobby Fredrick Shane

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Bobby F. Shane, 87 of Greensboro. Bobby passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, from his residence on Saturday December 18, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Meyer and Helen Ray Shane. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Faye Holmes Shane of the home; daughter Cindy Shane (Johnetta Shablack) of Kernersville, NC; daughter Lisa Ridley (Gary) of Whitsett, NC; grandson Stephen Baldwin (Courtney) and great grandsons Nate and Silas Baldwin of Conway, SC; granddaughter Shana Thompson and great grandsons Knox and Chase Thompson of Greensboro, NC.

Mr. Shane was an Army Airborne Trooper in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg NC and served as a member of the Army Honor Guard at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He retired from the Greensboro Fire Department in 1994 after 31 years of service. He served at several fire stations throughout his career and was sometimes jokingly referred to as the “Legend of 7”.

Bobby was a member of Rankin Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was an avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels. He also enjoyed playing golf, boating and fishing the NC coast, taking family trips and watching NASCAR races on television. He especially loved phone calls and visits from his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He lit up when the little ones came in the house and he always had bubble gum and Tootsie Rolls for them.

Visitation will be from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, December 22nd at Rankin Baptist Church located at 3317 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405. The funeral service will follow the visitation at the church. Interment will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery.

The family respectfully requests that masks be worn for the visitation, funeral service and graveside service.

The Greensboro Fire Department and The Randolph County Memorial Honor Guard will assist with Bobby’s funeral service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Rankin Baptist Church, 3317 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405
