WEEDSPORT — Marie Short, 69, of Erie Drive, Weedsport, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at her family home.
Born in Auburn on Feb. 14, 1948, Marie was the daughter of the late Lena Licata. She had been employed as a nurse in various places in the Auburn area until her retirement from the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. She was proud of her job as a nurse and did her job well. She was always a caring and compassionate person and it showed when she was caring for her patients. Marie was also a licensed hair dresser.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Shannon Manchester, of Weedsport, and two granddaughters, Alena and Sydney Manchester, also of Weedpsort. They were truly the loves of her life and will forever live on in their hearts. She was the wind beneath their wings. She had a special friend, Pamela Fleury, of nearly 50 years and they were able to enjoy her final day together.
She is also survived by several cousins, friends, and hundreds of furry and feathered friends. She had a special place in her heart for animals and birds. She made it her job to feed all the stray animals in the neighborhood and had several bird feeders with a constant flow of seed and suet. Hummingbirds loved her as did her squirrels. If an animal in need crossed her path, she always did everything she could to help it. Marie loved crocheting and knitting. If she heard a baby was on the way she was quick to get a blanket made before the arrival.
Following Marie’s wishes, there will be no public funeral services. A celebration of her life will be planned for a later date.
Contributions in memory of Marie Short may be made to an animal rescue organization of choice.
Final arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home, Erie Drive, Weedsport.
