William “Bill” John Rybak, 80, passed away on May 18, 2020 in St. Luke’s Hospice. Bill was born on January 3, 1940 to William and Hazel Rybak in Duluth, MN where he lived his entire life. Bill grew up in the hillside and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1958. Bill married Diane LaPlante on August 18, 1962 and enjoyed 47 years together until Diane’s passing on November 6, 2009. Bill worked for MN Power for 31 years, retiring in 1995.Bill was a member of the Boy Scouts and coached Little League. He enjoyed many summers camping with family and friends at Enchanted Inn in Barnes, Wisconsin. He enjoyed playing cribbage, and often bragged about his 29 hand. He was a daily watcher of “The Price Is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune”. He was proud to have been able to stay in his home right up until he passed. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diane; brother, Tom (Valerie); and grandson, Kristopher Rybak. Bill is survived by his sister, Joan (Ross) Holzmer of West Fargo, ND; brothers-in-law, David (LeAnn) LaPlante, Albert Lidmark, and Calvin Lidmark; sister-in-law, Kay LaPlante; and many nieces and nephews. Bill will forever be missed by his children, sons Donald (Jana Kutnik) of Farmington, MN, Robert (Craig Anderson) of Titusville, FL, daughters, Susan (Jon) Downing of Duluth, MN, Debra (Randy) Parker of Esko, MN; grandchildren, Nicole (Jeremiah) Faerber of Farmington, MN, Brian Downing of Denver, CO, Michael Downing (Hannah Gilbertson), of So. St. Paul, MN, Josh Parker of Proctor, MN and Erik Rybak (Victoria Mohr) of River Falls, WI; and great-grandson, Jacob Parker. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff and doctors in St. Luke’s ICU and St. Luke’s Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care. A private family service will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
