Shirley continued to live in her childhood home until 2011. Shirley graduated in 1950 from Bemidji High School. The start of her senior year she participated in the first “Occupational Relations Class”. She received on the job training at Lutheran Hospital and became one of the hospital’s very first “Pinkies”. After nearly 20 years as a nurse’s aid Shirley enrolled in the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at the Bemidji Area Vocational Technical Institute. In 1972 she graduated and added the letters L.P.N. to her name. Shirley loved working in the nursery with all the babies, chances are if you were born in Bemidji before 1996 she met you in the nursery! Shirley loved to travel and journaled all her adventures she had with her dogs. She spent her retirement working at the Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce greeting visitors at Paul Bunyan and Babe, she volunteered for meals on wheels, and played cards with the neighborhood ladies. In 2011 she moved to Baker Park (the old Lutheran Hospital building) where her nursing career and legacy began. Shirley will be remembered as greeting everyone with open arms, a beautiful smile, and a cup of coffee. Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Viola (Moak) Worth, and father, George Worth. She is survived by members of the Worth family and countless others that were her family of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Hospice or Great River Rescue or your favorite charity, as it was Shirley’s life mission to always give to others.
