Ruth Peterson went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 9, 2020. She was born February 4, 1934 to Pastor Amos and Irma Stolen. She is survived by husband Roger, and sons, Steve Barter and wife Susan, Dan Barter and wife Debra, stepsons Todd Peterson and wife Sonya, and Mark Peterson and wife Kathy. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rebecca, Matthew, and Emily Barter, and Joseph and Samantha Peterson. She has a sister Audrey Gilmore and husband Dick.In 1956 Ruth graduated from St. Olaf College Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with degrees in English and Speech. Her teaching career lasted 38 years, teaching English and Speech, coaching Forensics, and directing plays. She taught in Great Falls Montana, Madison and Racine Wisconsin, Bemidji Minnesota, and the Blake Schools in Hopkins Minnesota. She also was chosen to teach English at “Swiss Semester” in Zermat, Switzerland in 1994. Ruth’s Christian walk affected her life deeply and manifested itself in many ways. She was chairman of Christian Women’s Club in Madison and chairman and Area Rep in Milwaukee, Wis. She traveled throughout the Midwest speaking at hundreds of Christian Women’s clubs and church retreats. In Bemidji she and two friends started the “Women’s Summer Bible Studies” and she taught those for fifteen years when she and her husband came to spend their summers at the lake. After they retired and started spending their winters in Panama City Beach, Florida, she also taught evening Bible studies at their church for ten years. Since then she has continued to lead countless small Bible studies in her condo and in her church in Florida. In her later years, Ruth became a “Prayer Warrior” which impacted many lives. Her friends will miss her, but they look forward to seeing her again at the party she’s planning at the middle Southern Gate of Heaven. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji. There will be a visitation from 5-7 pm, Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji, MN or Eastgate Christian Fellowship in Panama City Beach, FL. Condolences may be left at ceasefuneralhome.com.
