Nellie F. Withoff, 96, of Bemidji, MN died Friday, December 24, 2021 at her home.Interment will be at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. She was born June 3, 1925 in Berlin, Maryland, the daughter of Robert and Mariah (Maggie) (Gibbs) Fisher. She was raised and educated in Ocean City, Maryland, and served as a civilian at Ft. Miles, Delaware. She married Alfred J. Withoff March 4, 1946 at Ft. Miles, Lewis Delaware. She is survived by her daughters Nancy Lorig of Gilbert, Arizona and Doris Carlson of Palm Harbor, Florida and son Rob Withoff of Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as numerous grand and great-grandchildren and a rather large number of plants. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred and her dog Buddy. “Battleship Nellie” was well-loved and was able to live her last days at home with family. Nellie was well-known as a force of nature, strong-willed and fearless as they come, with a mischievous sense of humor. She traveled the world, visiting six of the seven continents and making many friends in the process. She also spent more than 30 years as a volunteer driver for Beltrami County, and served many a holiday meal as a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
