Lois M. Engen, age 98, of Esko, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Barnes Care. She was born December 20, 1923, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Helmer and Audrey (Duernberger) Sundstrom. As a young girl, she loved riding her bicycle and ice skating. She was a cheerleader throughout her high school years in Cloquet. Lois was united in marriage to Hoyt W. Engen on January 5, 1945. She had worked for the Cloquet and Duluth telephone companies, for St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth and was a Mary Kay consultant for many years. Lois enjoyed dancing and roller skating. She had been a Sunday School teacher, belonged to her church circle, and loved being a homemaker and caring for her family. Lois loved the Lord and had a strong faith. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hoyt W. Engen; sons, Gregory Engen, James Engen, and David Engen; stepmother, Corrine Sundstrom; brothers, Warren Sundstrom, and Gordon Sundstrom; and her beloved dog, Kiam. She is survived by her children, Audrey (Mark) Senarighi, John (Cheryl) Engen, and Jeffrey (Susan) Engen; daughter in law, Arlene Engen, sisters in law, Charlene Sundstrom and Karin Heckman; grandchildren, Scott (Lorie) Engen, Craig Engen, Sean (Heather) Senarighi, Andy (Amanda) Senarighi, Tammy (Brian) Seol, Jamie (Jonathan) Leal, Kerri (Tommy) Prudente and Clint Engen; great-grandchildren, Braden, Hunter and Ava Senarighi, Cole and Annabelle Engen, Carsen, Rowen and Evelyn Seol, Nola and Rogan Senarighi, and Arihanna Prudente; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service at Nelson Funeral Care, followed with a luncheon in the fellowship room. Inurnment service will be at Oneota Cemetery in Duluth at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Disabled American Veterans. Masks are preferred.
