Jacobson, James Clayton

James “Jimmy,” “Jim,” “Jake” Jacobson was born on February 22, 1939 to Edith and Joseph Jacobson on the family farm in Kandiyohi Township, Minnesota. He passed away on July 25, 2020 in Grand Junction, Colorado from cancer. Jake is survived by the son he raised, Nathan (Mara Prendergast) Jacobson; Nathan’s children Ethan, Ezra, Isabelle, and Celest; and Nathan’s mother Trina Jacobson. He is also survived by his siblings Renae (Joseph) Walto and Clifford Jacobson along with his nieces and nephew Sherri, Sandi, Susan, Colleen, Cathy, and Jeff. In addition, Jake is survived by the children he recently discovered and got to know: Luke (Marshaleen) Keith, Glenn Ellis, and Lisa Daskal Ragins along with their children. Jake went from having one son and one grandson to four children and 10 grandchildren in a few short years. Jake was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Linda Jacobson. Jake led an adventurous and full life. He spent his childhood in Spicer, Minnesota; graduated from Willmar High School; and then joined the Army. After, he led a nomadic lifestyle traveling from the east to the west coast, before settling in Colorado. He made his living as a skilled carpenter, teaching the trade to his son. Jake was an avid skydiver, making jumps into his 70s. He was also a downhill skier his entire life. On occasion he was known to jump out of a plane onto a mountain and then ski down it. That he lived to turn 81 amazes everyone who knew him. Jake had a generous heart and would be happy to share what little he had with anyone. His bright eyes and genuine charm will be missed dearly by all those who knew him. A celebration of life will be held in the future when we can gather safely. In the meantime, raise a glass to Jake and shout “Skål!”
