Gary Lowrey, of Hermantown, MN, passed away on Saturday, Oct.10th, in his home, surrounded by loved ones. Gary was born in Benton Harbor, MI on June 22, 1949 to John & Idola Lowrey. After graduating high school, he served his country in the U.S.Air Force including a tour of duty on Okinawa. Gary married Elaine Firme in 1968 and they lived in Duluth MN for 5 years, then they “went their separate ways”. He then married Linda Hesselgrave in 1974 and lived in Georgetown, IN and Marietta, GA. Gary was a heavy equipment mechanic for many years and he loved his work, was a volunteer firefighter, and loved fishing and hunting. After his marriage with Linda ended, he re-married Elaine in 2008 and they lived in North Dakota for 6 years, then back to Duluth in 2015. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Gary waged a courageous battle with a brain tumor for 17 years, and more recently, Parkinson’s and Leukemia. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Steve; an infant daughter; and former wife, Linda. Gary is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Kathy (Jim) Boucher; stepdaughter, Jodie (Ed) Hudak and stepson, Matthew (Emily) Soufflet; sister, Dianna (Doug) Leitz; six grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, where he enjoyed volunteering. The family appreciates everyone’s support.
