Gary Gene Erickson, 70 of Bemidji, MN, passed away peacefully on June, 30, 2020 at his home in Bemidji surrounded by his family. Committal Services will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, August 23, 2020, at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Turtle River, MN. Arrangements are with the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Gary Gene Erickson was born August 18, 1949 at the Lutheran Hospital in Bemidji, MN to John “Jack” Randen and Norma Audrey (Woodhouse) Erickson. Gary spent his youth in Bemidji attending the Lab School, and Bemidji High School, graduating in the class of 1967. Gary then joined the United States Naval Air traveling around the world. Gary repaired fighter jets and cared for every aspect of the planes; He belonged to The Jolly Rogers, Squadron 84, F-16 Fighting Falcon. He also worked with the Blue Angel aircrafts. When not on an aircraft carrier Gary was stationed at NAS Oceana Virginia Beach, Virginia. Gary returned home, married Elaine and they started their family. After his Navy Career came to an end, his creative side found him in college, taking drafting classes in the Industrial Technology Department at BSU. He designed the house he rebuilt for his family, and he regularly used the electrical knowledge that he studied in the Navy to wire several welding/auto shops for his buddies. Gary loved visiting with everyone, had a fast wit and was a jokester just like his mother. He enjoyed fast cars both new & old, collected exotic cowboy boots and enjoyed adding to his collection. He was always extra early to work and events, and a true perfectionist paying great attention to every detail. Being very driven, he started a few businesses from the ground up. He worked at the Bemidji clinic for many years. Gary then moved around some in Minnesota, left to live in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and later to Grand Forks, ND where he resided for many years before deciding to retire to the Philippines six years ago. Gary became ill with cancer and returned home to Bemidji to be with family and receive care last June 2019. Survivors include; His ex-wife Elaine Erickson, siblings; Randy Erickson, Terry (Tammie) Erickson, His children; Gina Erickson, Gregg Erickson, Kendra Vogt, Meagan Erickson, His Grandchildren; Courtney, Wyatt, Hayden, Gavin, Evan, and Camryn, and many nieces and nephews.
