Edward “Ed” Buchanan, of Duluth died peacefully in his home on August 27, 2020 with his family by his side. Ed was born in Monterey, Mexico on October 24, 1921 to Martin and Sarah (Labadie) Birnbaum. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater earning the Bronze Star and many service-related medals. Ed served on the Duluth Zoological Board was a member of Ducks Unlimited. Ed enjoyed many sports, especially skiing, canoeing, camping in the BWCA. He loved to hunt geese, ducks, deer, bear, antelope, pheasant and more. Ed was preceded in death by six weeks by his wife of 59 years Barbara (Lee) Buchanan. Ed is survived by sons Peter (Barbara) Buchanan of Denver, CO, Craig Kriedler of Balsam lake WI and daughter Cathy Royal of Chanhassen, MN. Six grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
