Doris Malterud

Doris Susan Malterud, 87, of Bemidji, MN died Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Neilson Place in Bemidji.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 11, at the St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Bemidji with Father Bill DeCrans officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Bemidji, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Doris was born April 20, 1934 in Bagley, Minnesota, the daughter of Leo and Angeline (Murach) Hofmeister. She was raised and educated in Bemidji, graduating from St. Philip’s School and Bemidji High School in 1952. She attended Bemidji Vo-Tech. She worked various jobs throughout her life including, Baumgartner Ins., Spaulding Motors, St. Philip’s Parish, Horace May School, Grandma, and Boys and Girls Club Grandma. She married Richard “Dick” Malterud on September 2, 1978 in Bemidji. She was an usher with Richard at St. Philip’s Church, and from 1988-2004 she worked for Boy Scouts of America. She received awards including Doctor of Commissioner Science in 2003 and several other scouting achievements. She played with the Paul Bunyan Babes softball team for many years. She enjoyed knitting, reading, crafting, baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Sandy (Dirk) Beer of Bemidji, MN, and Randy Craig of Bemidji, MN, 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, sisters Mavis Gorden of Carson City, NV, Connie Markem of Solway, MN, Iris Jackovich of Fairbanks, AK, and Margaret Newman of Bemidji, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Angeline Hofmeister, her first husband Dwight Craig, her husband Dick in 2012, daughter Linda Cairns, and son Shannon Craig and siblings Walter Hofmeister, Leo Hofmeister, Willard Hofmeister, and Mary Ann Thompson and daughter-in-law Penney Craig. Honorary casket bearers will be Robert Green, Raymond Ekerly, Paul Newmen, and Dirk Beer. Active casket bearers will be Kelly Craig, Matthew Craig, Nathanial Robare, and Sam Robare.  Condolences may be left at ceasefuneralhome.com.
