Doris Katherine (Wright) Nelson, Age 90, Bemidji MN (Formerly of Grand Rapids, MN) passed away August 20, 2021.Doris (Dory) was born on August 20, 1931, to Lewis and Elsie (Kluck) Wright in the Detroit Lakes area. The family moved to the Puposky area where Dory grew up and graduated from Bemidji High School. Shortly after high school, she married Boyd (Bob) Nelson. Dory and Bob moved to Vincennes, Indiana as Bob completed his education where she worked for an insurance office. After Bob completed his education, they returned to Minnesota settling in Grand Rapids where they raised three children, Jeffery, Gregory and Marjory. Once the children were older, Dory worked for the Middle School lunch program, where some students lovingly called her grandma. Dory enjoyed raising her children and enjoyed all the “neighborhood gang of friends” that would drop in. She had many interests including reading, gardening, bowling, dancing, cooking, crosswords and in later years, her love of horses with special friend Earl Speckman. It’s rumored that her peach pie is the absolute best, while others saying it was the lemon meringue! After her husband Bob passed in 1993 and following Dory’s retirement in 1996, she returned to the Bemidji area where she reconnected with old friends and family. She was a loving, caring and compassionate person and will be dearly missed by family and friends. Dory is survived by her three children, Jeffery Nelson, Gregory Nelson, and Marjory (Henry) Withers, grandchildren Travis O’Dell, Chuvon (Edward) Smithson, Ashley Nelson, Sister Leola (Wright) Helgeson and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Louis and Elsie Wright, husband Bob (Boyd) and special friend Earl Speckman. Services will be held at Cease Family Funeral Home at 2:00 pm, Friday, October 1, 2021 with burial at Eckles Cemetery following. The family requests that masks be used during the service out of respect to others in attendance during this challenging time.
