David Hall Thompson, 80, of Marco Island, FL passed away on June 7, 2021. He was born in Duluth, MN to Robert Barbo and Ellen Hall Thompson. He moved to the family homestead on Lake Superior in Larsmount, MN when he was 14 and attended high school in Two Harbors, MN. He graduated from Northland College in Ashland, WI and served in the United States Army in Germany.He worked for Baron-Blakeslee in Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL moving to San Diego, CA to manage their southwest operations. He left Baron-Blakeslee and purchased El Cajon Blueprint in El Cajon CA. He ran El Cajon Blueprint for 26 years before retiring to Marco Island, FL in 2018. Dave’s passions were hockey, tennis, sailing, boating, swimming, skiing, biking, and rollerblading. He coached youth hockey in Milwaukee, Chicago, and San Diego. For many years, he was a member of the Southwestern Yacht Club in San Diego enjoying raft ups, sailing trips to Catalina, dancing at Friday Night Entertainment, and socializing with his many SWYC friends. In 2018, he and his wife moved to Marco Island, FL where he enjoyed tennis, biking, swimming, boating, and watching the beautiful sunsets from his lanai. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Ann Woodruff, his dog, Misty, his nephews and nieces: Robert (Becky) Thompson of Prior Lake, MN, Katie (Mike Trysten) Tocko of Prior Lake, MN, Erik Thompson of Naples, FL, David (Bria) Thompson of Prior Lake, MN, and Jesi (Donny) Thompson of Lynchburg, VA, and grand nieces and nephews: Kylie Thompson, Brooke Thompson, Jack Tocko, and George Tocko. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael. Dave was one of the good guys in this world and will be missed far and wide from Florida to Minnesota to California and beyond! Memorial donations may be given to the Two Harbors Youth Hockey Association (https://gofund.me/34e77758) to support girls and boys interested in playing hockey with funding to pay for their equipment and other fees.
