Aaron Moses Powers, 76, of Bemidji, MN died Saturday, October 26, 2020 at his home in Bemidji.Private Family Committal Services will be held at 4:00pm, Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji, MN. A Public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A Public Visitation will be held from 5-7:00pm, Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Arrangements are with the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji. He was born into a large, loving, and musical family on March 10, 1944 in Iaeger, WV, the son of Charlie and Naomi (Money) Powers. His father being a traveling minister, Aaron’s family moved to Northern Minnesota when he was a young child, and eventually settled in Bemidji. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1962 and served on the USS Rogers and the USS Nereus AS17. He was Honorably Discharged in 1963. He attended technical school in East Grand Forks, MN, and got a degree in welding. He married MaryAnn Johnson on June 20, 1970, in Bemidji, MN. In 1988, they moved their family to Umatilla, OR, and he opened a second hand store. Aaron was a talented singer and guitar player, he was a part of the Old Times Fiddler’s Association, a group of bluegrass musicians that traveled the Northwest playing festivals and shows. He returned with his family to Bemidji in 1994, and he focused on his music. He had spent time in Branson, MO, and Nashville, TN as a musician and songwriter. He grew up playing churches, clubs, and festivals. Back at home he played shows for Nursing Homes and Retirement Communities. He helped the Bemidji Police Department by joining the Bemidji Community Guard. He enjoyed fishing and camping. His door was always open, he cared for and even took in neighborhood kids and his children’s friends if they needed a place to stay. He loved being with his children, and grandchildren above everything else. He is survived by his: Wife, MaryAnn Powers, Children, Matt (Deb) Powers, Mark (Nikki) Powers, Anne (Gabe) Carlstrom, Grandchildren, Faryn Lord Powers, Jasmine Powers, Aaryn Powers, Markus Powers, Cade Powers, Peyton Carlstrom, And Micah Carlstrom, Great-Grandchild, Kyson Avery Powers, Sister, Ruth (Richard) Norvold, Brother, Paul (Margaret) Powers,He was preceded in death by his parents, his father in law Arnold Johnson, mother-in-law Marlys Johnson, many brothers and sisters.
