Barbara J. Backus, 79, of Tawas City, Mich., passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at her home.
Barb was born April 15, 1936 in Coloma, Mich. to the late Frances L. and Elaine B. (Seeley) Bennett. She married Richard Backus on October 11, 1954 in Flint, Mich.
Barb was head waitress for many years at the Holland House Hotel. She was also a secretary for John Henry Construction. Barb was a devout Emanuel Lutheran Church member. She enjoyed cross word puzzles, playing cards, and spending great amounts of time with her grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.
Barb is survived by her children, Donald (Cynthia) Backus, Richard (Nora) Backus, Brenda (Billy) Wilson, Bonnie (Johnie) Jordan, David (Sandy) Backus, Daniel (Amy) Backus; grandchildren, Lindsay Warriner, Joseph Johnson, Heather Dear, Charles Backus, Scott Backus, Cody Jordan, Tyler Jordan, Keaton Backus, James Backus, Holly Backus, Allison Backus, Brady Backus, Zachary Watson; two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Richard, and parents, Barb was preceded in death by grandchildren, Colby and Rilley; brothers, John Bennett and Ray Bennett.
Visitation for Barb will take place 5-8 p.m. Thurs., January 28, 2016 at Buresh Funeral Home – Tawas City. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. (in state at 10 a.m.) Friday, January 29, 2016 at Emanuel Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family wishes.
