Peggy Mayfield Sotomayor, 67, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.
Born in Candler County, she was the daughter of Ralph G. Mayfield, Sr. and Mildred Thrift Mayfield. She moved to Jesup early on and then to San Juan, Puerto Rico after which she returned to Tattnall County. Peggy was a Licensed Practical Nurse. When not working, which she loved to do, she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and shopping. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Garrison and Ida Lee Howell and her parents.
She is survived by a son, Dennis Brown of Cobbtown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Robert Woodbine of Orlando, FL, and Windy and Shannon Williams of Metter; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ralph and Wanda Mayfield of Anagance, New Brunswick Canada, and Blake Mayfield of Metter; nine grandchildren, Christina Lassiter, Alexandria and Corbin Woodbine, Brandon and Matthew Sotomayor, Kayla and Elaina Williams; uncle and aunt, Greene and Cybil Thrift; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8, at 2:00 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Rev. Michael Williams officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Michael Carter, Matthew Sotomayor, Travis Williams and Geoff Collins. A cremains scattering will be held at a later date.
