Betty Louise Grimes, 86, of Panama City, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at her brother’s home in Tallahassee, Fla. She was born on June 1, 1929, in Girard, Ala., to Rudolph D. and Mattie Mozelle Cannon. She was a retired land developer and builder by profession and she will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends. She loved music and in addition to being an accomplished classical pianist, she had a special talent for playing music with flair and finesse, rolling the chords to create a vibrant effect in her own unique style. She especially enjoyed playing hymn tunes in this style and her playing was always full of joy and inspiration.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling and they spent several years motor homing across the United States with their friends. After her beloved husband passed away, she continued her travels with her brother Robert and his wife Sherry, whom she loved as a sister. She spent the last two decades of her life taking frequent trips and extended journeys across the United States. During this time they traveled in 49 of the 50 states. Her quick wit was always delivered with a twinkle in her eye and her beautiful smile, kind and gentle nature and generosity will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hugh Thomas Grimes, by her niece, Robin Cannon Candeto and husband Steven Lewis Candeto, and her sister-in-law Sherry Whitley Cannon.
She is survived by her brother, Robert D. Cannon, her niece, Angela Cannon Hirte, DMA and husband John D. Hirte, Jr. and their children Anna, Robert and Emma Hirte, grandniece, Caroline Candeto Newkirk and husband Matthew Newkirk and their children Lydia, Silas and Ethan Newkirk, grandnephew, John Candeto and wife Carrie Beth Wallace Candeto, grandnephew Steve Candeto and wife Lindsey Caldwell Candeto, and grandniece Lucy Candeto.
