Crisanta “Cris” Romero, 81, of Coachella, Calif. passed away January 2, 2016 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She was born on March 30, 1934 to Francisco Romero and Juanita Medina in Thermal, Calif. Cris Romero – Beloved by all who knew her. Her joyful spirit will be greatly missed. After graduating from Coachella Valley High School, she started working at JC Penney in Indio, Calif.; after she retired from JC Penney’s for 40 years, she worked at Del Taco . She was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America as Den Leader; the Tamale Festival; every year at the Date Festival and sold fair tickets. She volunteered at our Lady of Soledad Catholic Church in Coachella as well as at the Summer Children’s Reading programs for the Coachella, Mecca, and La Quinta libraries. In 2000, she was named Volunteer of the Year by Riverside County Supervisor, Roy Wilson. She participated at Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade as “Betty the Clown” making balloon animals for children. She participated in the Annual Coachella Christmas Parade, as well as at all Memorial and Veterans Day Services and made beautiful wreaths for their yearly commemorations. She was honored as Citizen of the Year by the City of Coachella in 2003. Cris was a Board Member of the Indio Senior Center where she made beautiful table decorations for all their holiday luncheons, and was also a member of the TOPS organization at the Indio Senior Center. Cris was a member of all the Chambers of Commerce in the Coachella Valley. For many years, Cris was a Photo Journalist for the Spanish newspaper El Informador, featuring her own column “The Adventures of Cris.” She is survived by her sister, Frances Lopez of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and sister-in-law Rosario P. Romero of Oxnard, Calif. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of Soledad in Coachella. Interment will taking place at Coachella Valley Public Cemetery in Coachella immediately after the Funeral Service.
