LAKE MILLS — Joan E. Simdon, 91, Lake Mills, was called home to her Lord on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1926, in Lake Mills, the daughter of the late Reuben and Vera (Gallup) Gottschalk.
She was a lifelong resident of Lake Mills believing, “Why leave Lake Mills when I have and love everything here?”
She was a graduate of the Lake Mills High School, class of 1944.
Joan married Marvin Simdon on March 1, 1947. He died on Oct. 30, 1987.
She had been employed by the Lake Mills School lunch program for over 35 years.
Joan was a member of the Lake Mills United Methodist Church, Young Mother’s Homemakers, the Red Hats, served lunch for many years at the Lake Mills Senior Center, was past marshal for the Town & Country Days parade and volunteered for many area activities, earning the award of Volunteer of the Year in 2012.
Joan enjoyed camping, square dancing and especially music. She shared her gift of music playing piano and singing for numerous funerals and uncountable area functions.
Survivors include her two daughters, Sandy (Russell) Jensen of Madison and Mary Jo (David) Hornickel of Lake Mills; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dana (Rob) Padley and their children Levi and Gracen, Eric (Lauren) Jensen and their son Samuel, Ryan (Nicole) Hornickel and their children Owen and Eli, Kyle (Marie) Hornickel and their children Evie and Macey; one sister, Marjorie Schroeder of Onalaska; nephews, John (Loy) Schroeder and Paul Schroeder; other relatives and friends.
She is also preceded in death by a stillborn great-grandson, Isaac Jensen; brother-in-law, Al Schroeder; and nephew, Jimmy Schroeder.
A memorial celebration of Joan’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. Jane Follmer-Zekoff officiating. Friends may call after 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the church until the time of service. Private family burial will be in Rock Lake Cemetery.
If desired, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or Rainbow Hospice.
