Gene L. Curtis went to heaven on September 9, 2017. He was born to Phil and Emma Curtis on August 25, 1923, in Selah at his grandmother’s home. He went to Selah schools where he played basketball. Following graduation, he was employed by the high school as a janitor as well as helping his father in the orchard.

Gene enlisted in the Army where he was an MP. After serving from 1945 to 1946, he was honorably discharged with a rank of T5 Corporal with medals. Upon his return home, Gene worked at Matson’s Fruit along with several jobs in the area as well as a small repair shop.

Gene had several hobbies he enjoyed doing with his family. Camping, panning for gold, hunting, and motor-homing were a few.

At the time of his discharge, he was married to Luella Walker Curtis and they had a daughter; then came a son. Gene began to work at Hanford in 1954 as a Radiation Monitor and continued to work there until his retirement in 1985. At this time, he was married to Ronda. They had one daughter.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Phil and Emma Curtis; a son, Phil Curtis; a grandson, Jeffrey Curtis; and a sister, Norene Rine.

Surviving family includes his wife Ronda Denton Curtis; daughter Maurica (Ryan) Scott; grandson Adrian; daughter Barbara (Jim) King; grandson Ron (Angie) Seller; grandson Steven (Theresa) Sellers; daughter-in-law Telena (Phil) Curtis; granddaughter Deanne (Rick) Withrow; 5 great great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; his sister Phyllis (Junior) McPherson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park on September 28, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Memorial Hospice or Yakima Cancer.
