Sarah “Tip” Black Quillen of 28 Dora Hwy., Pulaski, Va., peacefully entered into heaven Wednesday afternoon at home.
She was born Nov. 8, 1925, a daughter of the late Kittie Meredith Black and Elbert G. Black. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Vanover Quillen; son, Dennis Scott Quillen; sisters, Shirley Underwood and Isabel Akers, and brother Douglas “Dee” Black. She was a faithful member of United Methodist Church of Pulaski, Va.
Surviving are her daughters, Rita Quillen Smith and her husband, Danny, of Naples, Fla., and Shirley Ann Maiden of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Michael Hodges, Jeffrey Smith, Chad Smith and Jackie Thompson; six great-grandchildren; sister, Iva Jewell Shufflebarger, and brothers, Elbert G. Black Jr. and Charles “Zack” Black.
Tip was known in the community for her great cooking, especially for her cakes, pies and fudge. She was passionate, caring and loved by many, especially by her many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Viewing will be at Seagles Funeral Home Friday, Sept. 14, 6-8 p.m. The funeral is Saturday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Will Shelton officiating. Graveside committal is 2 p.m. at Felts Memorial Cemetery in Galax, Va. Flowers can be sent to the funeral home. Burial is at Felt’s Cemetery in Galax, Va., immediately following the service.
