Edward Richard “Dick’’ Fernlund died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at the Ely Bloomenson Hospital.
He was born Feb. 12, 1930, near Cook, to Frank and Cordelia (Ecklund) Fernlund. He married Carol Sokoloski May 25, 1957, in Virginia. Edward graduated from Cook High School, was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951, was honorably discharged in 1953, was a life member of the Waite Park Post 428 American Legion, retired from the U.S. Forest Service as an engineer in 1985 after 27 years. Edward “Dick” was a man of few words but was known for his dry humor that kept you laughiing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting agates and watching football and westerns.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Corry Frentz (Roy Bester); sons, Ed Fernlund (Robin Amolins) and Tom (Veronica) Fernlund; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents; brothers, Franklin and John; and sisters, Alice, Rosemary and Lois.
A service will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Buyck Cemetery. A 2 p.m. coffee will follow at Grahek Apartments in Ely. Arrangements entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
