MARION, Va. Robert Gilbert Alexander, Sr., 73, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Alexander was born in Smyth County, Va. to the late William Gladstone Alexander, Sr. and Sylvia Bonn Perkins Alexander and was preceded in death by his wife forty days ago, Rosemarie Alexander; a sister, Katherine Eppling; and an infant grandson, Robert Carl Aker. Mr. Alexander was veteran of the United States Army having served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He achieved the rank of Specialist 5. He retired from General Dynamics with over 41 years of employment and after retirement was a farmer. Survivors include four sons, Robert Gilbert Alexander Jr. & wife, Rose, Stephen Alexander and wife, Sherri, Carrol Alexander and wife, Tammy, and Joseph Alexander and Pattie Davenport; grandchildren, Audrey Aker, Heather Wright, Adrienne Alexander, Jensen Alexander, Justin Alexander, Brandon Alexander, Katrina Alexander, Jaelyn Alexander, and Jon Alexander; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Buddy Alexander, Jr and wife, Viola and Kenny Alexander and wife, Debbie; sister-in-law, Sieglinda Hubeny and Siegfried. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, September 25, 2017, at Mr. Alexander’s farm the South Fork Farm with Pastor Mark Totten officiating. Interment will follow in South Fork Cemetery with full military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Bradley’s Funeral Home in Marion. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com.
