Edwin William Ubernosky, 92, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 in Richmond. He was born March 20, 1925 in Frenstat to Alfred and Louise Ubernosky. Edwin was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion for 75 years. He worked as a head lineman for HL&P for 42 years and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Edwin served as a 20mm gunner on the destroyer U.S.S. Edwards in the Pacific Theater, from the Aleutian Islands to the Philippines. Despite battling Kamikazes, the Edwards received 14 battle stars with no casualties.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Barbara, children, Patricia Silhavy and husband Larry, Yvonne Strain, David Ubernosky and wife Elaine, brother Milton Ubernosky, Herbert Ubernosky and wife Earline, sister Bernice Freudensprung, brother, Melvin Ubernosky and wife Margie, brother, Marvin Ubernosky and wife Jeanette, sister, Barbara Jean Tutt and husband Paul, grandchildren, Mark and Justin Silhavy, Brian Strain, Sara Jochec, Cheryl Cernoch, Michael and Nathan Ubernosky, great grandchildren, Ryan and Owen Strain, Carson and Emma Jochec, Nicole and Amber Cernoch, Dylan Brdecka and Gabriella Ubernosky, along with a host of other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael Ray Ubernosky.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father William D. Bartniski officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday, October 2, 2017 from 5-7 P.M. with a Rosary at 6:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home.
