J. C. Wallen

DUFFIELD, VA – J. C. Wallen, 69, of the Jasper Community, passed away on Friday (Dec. 7, 2018) at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, VA.
He was a retired strip mining heavy equipment operator for Humphrey Coal Co. and a member of the Living Waters Ministry.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Calton; his father, Talmadge Wallen; and a sister, Charlotte Wallen.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Berda Wallen; son, Joseph Calton (Donna) of Pennington Gap, VA; two granddaughters, Meghan Calton and Abygail Calton, both of Pennington Gap; two brothers, Larry Wallen and Carl Wallen (Teresa), both of Gate City, VA; four sisters, Patsy Lyons (William) of Alpharetta, GA, Thelma Cradic (Greg) of Gate City, Mamie Wallen (Marty Combs) of Kingsport, TN and Charnita Castle (David) of Weber City, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gilliam Funeral Home (618 Wood Ave., W.) in Big Stone Gap.
The funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Billy Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the Meredith Cemetery in Japser.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
