GRANITE FALLS Dexter Kirby, 74, of Granite Falls, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017. He was the son of the late Harvey and Gladise Bostain Kirby. Dexter enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, hunting, and fishing after his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shelba Jean Kirby; three brothers, Harvey Clinton Kirby, Ronnie Kirby and infant baby boy; three sisters, Peggy Barger, JoAnn Welcher, and Christine Detter. Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Richard Kirby and wife, Anita of Mountain City, Tenn., and Randy Roberts and wife, Jackie of Lenoir; four grandsons, Kristopher Kirby, Matthew Henson, Robert Henson and Michael Henson of Mountain City, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Eli Henson and Emma Henson; one sister, Frances Kirby of Granite Falls; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 16, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Mackie Funeral Home with the funeral service following in the chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will be held in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Church, Josh Hughes, Josh Lakey, Lance Detter, and Donovan Culbreth. Military honors will be rendered at graveside by DAV Chapter 6.
