Susan Barlow Pezzuto

The Amazing Blanket

Susan Barlow Pezzuto, age 67, of Kennett Square, PA, formerly of Glenolden, PA, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017, peacefully at Preston Residence at Jenner’s Pond, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born in Glenolden, PA, she was a daughter of the late Walter Barlow, Jr. and Ethel Sarah Barlow.

Susan graduated from Glenolden High School in 1968 and West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 1982, as a returning single mother, and earned her BA in Elementary Education.

After completing her education, Susan struggled to find work in her chosen profession, elementary education, so she began teaching adults how to utilize business software applications for numerous software companies. After years of training adults she decided to follow in the footsteps of her father and become a salesperson.  She was a sales executive for several software  companies, including Solomon, Great Plains, Triad Systems, and Microsoft.  She retired from SAP Americas as a Global Partner Manager in 2015.  During her retirement she returned to her love of theatre by appearing in several Kennett Amateur Theatre Society (KATS) theatre productions and started working part-time at Longwood Gardens- a job she loved- because she got to work with compassionate colleagues and spend time in the beautiful gardens.

Since moving to Kennett Square 20 years ago, she proudly served her college alumnae association, the Brandywine Community Chorus, and KATS.

Susan had a lifelong love of the animals (particularly of the feline variety), the arts, including all forms of music and theatre, shopping for antiques or an outfit for an upcoming event, and fly fishing. There was nothing she enjoyed more than a day or weekend trip to New York City to see a Broadway show or a road trip to the shore (especially in winter when the crowds had dissipated); but she especially enjoyed spending a lazy Saturday at home with her beloved cat, Isabella “Tater” Cheyenne.

Susan’s family would like to give special thanks to Dr. David Henry and Courtney and the nurses and office staff of Abramson Cancer Center at Pennsylvania Hospital, and Willow Tree Hospice and her dedicated hospice nurses, Carol Davis, Michelle Jorgenson, Melanie Blevins and Glenda Vega, for their compassion and care during Susan’s time of need. The family would also like to thank Meals on Wheels of Chester County for providing nutritious meals and companionship in the last 5 months of her life when she had the greatest need for great nutrition and companionship.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Kimberlie Flammini (Sabatino); her sisters Elaine Barlow Shipman (David), Aimee Barlow (Randy); and her brothers Thomas Barlow (Clara) and Andrew Barlow; her Aunt, Betty McCausland; her cousins Jill & Lowman Halley and Lynn McCausland; many special nieces and nephews and many special great-nieces and nephews; and her beloved feline companion Isabella “Tater” Cheyenne. She is also survived by her special friends Marti Millington, Linda Pyle, Donna Gregg, Linda Williams, Dixie Anderson, Regina Painter, Nancy Nowlan, Terrie Stickle, Eileen & Ed Murray, Janice Ask, and Rebecca Rodriguez and her faithful neighbors Joyce Ryan and Thomas Dame.

You are invited to visit with Susan’s family and friends from 10:00 to 11:30, Friday morning, September 29, 2017, at Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home (610-444-4116) 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Her Funeral service will follow at 11:30. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery, Route 82, Kennett Square, PA.
