Shirley L. Zimmerman

A funeral service will be held Monday for Shirley L. Zimmerman, formerly of Farrell. She passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, in John XXIII Home in Hermitage. She was 88. 

Mrs. Zimmerman was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Sharpsville to Percy and Grace Jackson Davis.

Shirley graduated from Sharpsville High School, class of 1945.

She worked as a paycheck clerk for the former Shenango Furnace Inc., Sharpsville.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Sharpsville; and the American Business Women’s Association.

Shirley volunteered for Shenango Valley Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Shenango Valley YMCA, Hermitage, where she enjoyed participating in Silver Sneakers.

She was loved by all who knew her. Shirley loved cooking and taking care of her home, and particularly her family, whom she loved dearly.

On July 14, 1962, she married John E. “Hawkins” Zimmerman; he passed away in November 1994.

Shirley is survived by her son, Mark D. “Zim” Zimmerman Sr. and his companion Courtney Dorogi, both Farrell; a sister, Dolores Stainbrook, Sharpsville; Colombo Obregon, whom she thought of as her own son; and five grandchildren, Mark D. Zimmerman Jr., Cameron Zimmerman, K’era Zimmerman-Morrison, Takesha (Gary) Thomas and Vanessa Richardson; and a great-grandchild, Davion Richardson.

Besides her husband, John E. Zimmerman, her father, Percy Davis, and her mother, Grace Davis, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Thomas.

Shirley’s family would like to extend a special thank-you to her caregivers at John XXIII Home for their excellent care.

Service: Funeral service at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Carlin officiating.

Interment: Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
