Louella Ethel LaBar, 78, of East Stroudsburg, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono. She was the wife of Richard “Dick” LaBar; they were married Oct. 12, 1963.
Born Aug. 18, 1939, in East Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Ethel (Ludwig) Ruth. She was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
Louella worked in housekeeping at the former Mountain Manor in Marshalls Creek. She also worked at the former Hughes Printing in East Stroudsburg. Louella was the anchor of her family. She loved being the hostess for all of the family picnics. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver. Her soap operas, “M*A*S*H*” TV show, and country music could be heard through the woods in Woodale.
In addition to her husband, Dick, she is survived by her son, David LaBar and his wife, Julia LaBar-Giambalvo, of Stroudsburg; her daughter, Deborah Ruth of Tennessee; and her granddaughter, Olivia Grace LaBar.
She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Singer of Stroudsburg and Charlotte Conover of Saylorsburg; her sisters-in-law: Carol Rother, Bonnie Singer, Delores LaBar and Gail Bauman; and her brothers-in-law: James “Jim” LaBar, Edmund LaBar, Michael Bauman and Gene Singer. She will be missed by her many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Howard Ruth; her sister, Elfrieda “Tiny” Staples; and her brothers-in-law, Carl Rother and Carl “Cork” LaBar.
There will be a visitation from 5 to 9 p.m., with memorial funeral services at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, at Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Fifth St., Stroudsburg, with Pastor Margie Good officiating
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in care of the Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Fifth St., Stroudsburg.
