Virginia Lee Krueger, 81, died peacefully on January 16 after a brief illness. She is survived by her three children, Kurt Krueger (Cecilia), Karen Tarjan (Steve Herson) and Laura Krueger (Tom Lukins); sisters Vida Ann Donohue (Larry) and Valerie Vining; her uncle, Edward Speeches; and grandchildren Paul and Timm Krueger and Wyatt and Flynn Crawford. Raised in Greenport, Long Island by Einar and Vida Unander, she graduated from Antioch College and lived in Easton PA, Syracuse NY, Mobile AL, St. Louis, MO and finally Louisville, KY. While in Easton, she worked as an administrator for Lehigh Valley Childcare, and was a dedicated member of the League of Women Voters and the American Association for University Women. In St. Louis, she operated a bed and breakfast and welcomed many foreign visitors. After the fall of the Soviet Union, she went to Czechoslovakia to teach English for several months, one of the highlights of her life. She moved to Louisville in 1999 where she enjoyed the Bellarmine Veritas program, Milestone Fitness Center, Conversation Cafe and her grandchildren. She spent the last several years of her life at Oxmoor Lodge as an active participant in the community. Her wish was for her ashes to be scattered in the Long Island Sound surrounded by family. Memorial gifts may be directed to her grandson’s school, The Bluegrass Center for Autism, www.bluegrasscenterforautism.org.
