Gary G. Gately, 74, of Mt. Bethel, PA, passed away Friday, January 22nd, at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Bethlehem, PA. Gary was born in Fairfield, NJ on September 6, 1941, a son of the late Edward T. and Muriel S. (Stager) Gately. He was the husband of Jeanne K. Gately. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on January 10th. In 1964 Gary moved to Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania where he purchased farmland and founded Old Stonehouse Farm. Farming was his life and he loved doing what he did. He met each season head on, eager to plow the fields for spring planting and reap the harvest in the fall. Gary was best known as the “hay man”! Growing and supplying hay for many stables and farms kept him on the move in his hay truck. It was on a hay delivery many years ago that he met his wife and brought her home to start a family! He was a hard working man and he taught his work ethic and values to his family and the many young men that have worked for him on the farm over the years and became part of the extended family of Old Stonehouse Farm. Gary G. Gately was hard to miss as the hay man, always dressed in green. He was a wealth of information on farming and a father figure to many; Gary was never far from his home farm. He was a 1959 graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell, NJ. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Mt. Bethel, PA. Gary was also a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. In addition to his wife Jeanne, Gary is survived by a daughter, Sarah Wilson and her husband John, two sisters, Martha Duxbury and Donna Becker, a grandson Jack Wilson and close family friend Andrew Dunne. Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 632 S. Delaware Drive, Mt. Bethel, PA, at 11 AM on Saturday, January 30th, with Rev. Rodney W. Wells officiating. Friends are invited to call Saturday 10 – 11 AM at the church. Burial will be held Reformed Cemetery, Mt. Bethel, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., “Village of Johnsonville”, Bangor, PA. Online condolences may be made at
