Ficca, Robert James

Mount Carmel – Robert James Ficca, 87, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community.
Born in Atlas on July 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Dominic and Helen (Bianchi) Ficca. He grew up in Atlas and attended Mt. Carmel Township schools graduating from Mt. Carmel Township High School where he played football. He attended St. Bonaventure College in Allegany, NY.
Bob was employed for many years at Bodnar’s Studebaker Garage. He later retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
He was a great volunteer in his earlier years helping at the former St. Peter’s Parish and driving the St. Peter’s school bus. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Mt. Carmel Elks. He loved gardening and taking care of plants.
Bob loved his walks “downtown” and enjoyed meeting and talking to everyone. It seemed that he knew the entire town. He also made many friends at the nursing home. He said his goal was just to make people a little happier each day.
Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years Marie (Bodnar) Ficca; six children, Marie Coyne and her husband Robert of Mechanicsburg; Robert M. Ficca of Mt. Carmel; Joseph Ficca and his wife Michelle of Danville; Christopher Ficca and John Ficca both of Mt. Carmel; seven grandchildren, Jordan Ficca, Ian Ficca, Daniel Coyne, Erin Merichko, Cara Sawyer, Maura Corbett and Caitlin Coyne; and ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Anet (Sis) Thiroway and her husband Joseph of Mount Carmel and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James; a granddaughter, Amy Ficca and a great grandson, James Corbett; as well as two sisters, Agatha Hullihan and Bernice Smith.
Robert James Ficca, 87, of Mt. Carmel – Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 1:00 pm in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 West Avenue, Mount Carmel with Reverend Martin O. Moran III, officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Twp. Viewing will be held Thursday from 10:30am – 12:45pm with Transferal Prayers at 12:00 noon in C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 North Vine Street, Mount Carmel, C.J. Lucas IV, Supervisor. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Divine Redeemer Church, 438 West Avenue, Mount Carmel, PA 17851.
