Daniel F. Ackers, age 76, of Effort, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.

Daniel was the loving husband of Janet (Knecht) Ackers. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on June 2, 2015.

He was born in White Haven on Nov. 12, 1939, son of the late Leo and Mary (Geshel) Ackers.

Daniel had worked as a printer at Bemis Company Inc. in West Hazelton for 34 years until retiring.

He served our country with dedication and courage in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Vulcan and the USS Suribachi.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church in White Haven.

We have been blessed with the presence of Daniel in our lives. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Janet, of Effort; his children, Daniel P. Ackers and wife, Joanne, of Scotrun, and Allison Moretz and husband, Michael, of Gilbert. He was the loving and gentle grandpa to his grandson, Ellis Michael Moretz of Gilbert. He is also survived by three sisters, Leona Ackers and Elaine Smith, both of White Haven, and Mary Alice Quinn and husband, John, of Torrington, Connecticut; two brothers, Gordon Ackers and wife, Beverly, and Leo Ackers, all of White Haven; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Herbener.

Funeral services will begin 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Gower Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Route 209, Gilbert, with Rev. Robin Fisher officiating. Family and friends are welcome to offer their condolences from 9 a.m. until time of service, Tuesday, January 26, at the funeral home. Daniel will be buried at the Hillside Memorial Cemetery in Effort with Military Honors.
